Deep in the heart of Texas

We took a trip to San Antonio with my husband's parents last week. It was just great to get away for a few days, be a tourist, and eat yummy food!

Things to do when in San Antonio:
River Walk
Our hotel was on the river, but not close enough to the river walk, so we too a river taxi. It was fun and relaxing! We also took a river tour which gave us a lot of history of the area.
Waiting for the river taxi

Good eats!
This place by far was my favorite place to eat. Boudro's bistro...I've never had pan seared tuna before, and I decided to take a risk...and it was amazing! There's great mexican everywhere too!

Go above the river walk...
There's lots of historical places to see,
like this German church (gorgeous door!)...

The Alamo, of course...

And a really cute and quiet German Village off the river called La Villita, with little shops and restaurants to check out.

Do uber touristy things! Like Wonder World...
So this little hide-a-way tourist trap seemed really dorky when we pulled up to it, but for the nerd within me it was fun! We toured a dry cave...which included a visible fault line and the ability to see fossilized mud from the ocean floor, approx 65 mya (yup, nerdy)

There was a little train ride into their animal area...
I've never been this close to deer!
I could only imagine that if you had kids, they would love it!
And that goat---he's a fainting goat. Their legs get paralyzed when they are startled and they fall over. And one little baby goat froze over and "fainted" right on cue! (I will definitely be talking about these guys in school this year!)

They also had an anti-gravity house.
The house it build in such a way that your body feels heavy and you can't figure out how to walk straight. A complete optical illusion, but too fun.

Oy vey! August is right around the corner and I'm just not ready to give up all the fun yet! Anyone else have fun plans left before school begins? Before you get your kiddos back on school schedule?

Happy Monday and happy vacation time!

Happy Anniversary!

4 years ago I married the love of my life.
We've been on quite a journey.
Dated since we were in high school.
(oh, embarrassing)

Went to college together.
Married...
Then 5 months later moved to Texas.
We've been through budgeting woes.
Puppy raising.
(oh, poor Wicket needed a haircut here!)
Late date nights at the movie theater when I'd rather be sleeping :) (the things you do for the one you love)

We've been through some of the hardest and rockiest moments of our lives together.

You know. Those moments that literally threaten the bond between the two of you (which is a whole other conversation at an open table with a cup of coffee in hand).

But I would never go back and choose it any other way.
I'm glad he chose me. I'm glad he wants to be with me for the rest of our lives.

Til we're old and crinkly. (so we say)

So today we simply celebrate. Nothing too elaborate (even though I'm literally dying at home and could jump on a plane today and head for some beautiful beach sand).

No big celebrations now because...wait for it...
wait for it...
Yup. That beauty is happening this November for Thanksgiving Break!

Happy Anniversary to us! I'm good with a simple dinner tonight, and then we'll have dinner with Hobbits in New Zealand and filleted fish from the ocean. :)

Love you hubby!

8 more weeks!

I hope my lack of posts does not make you feel ignored, my fellow teacher readers. I'm sure you understand by now, it's been a busy year :)

I'm down to 8 more weeks of school! I think it's gonna fly by faster for me than it will for the students.

Thanksgiving and the Cabin Life

While I know that we are all into the swing of Christmas, I must share some fun stuff that happened last week before we all went back to school! (We all know I don't have much of a life this year-but this blog post proves I still have a pulse!)

Friends-giving!!

We had just a great Thanksgiving together. Love my friends who have been my community and are my family!

Over the weekend my husband and I spent some time together at a cabin in OK. Amazing is an understatement!

View from the cabin

"It was the best vacation since our honeymoon!" --to quote my husband.

If you live in the area and can ever make it to Watson, OK you must go to this "luxury" cabin site. Rivers Edge Cottages is the place to be! We walked into the cabin with relaxing music playing. There's a full kitchen, jacuzzi, and all with a gorgeous view.

They also had a journal that couples could write in to talk about their stay. SO cute!

(I'm not paid to endorse them, I just really think this place rocks!)

We did some hiking, bike riding, carved our initials in a tree, and enjoyed each other's company.

So good! A great getaway before heading back to school, Now I am currently enjoying some time at International Baccalaureate (IB) training. Really educating myself this year!

Anyways, begin the countdown to Christmas break!

A week of Thankfulness #1

Woah woah. It's been almost a month since I've been here! The last several weeks have been so busy with school! And I have survived until Thanksgiving break! Thank GOD!

I hope you all have made it or are close to making it to Thanksgiving break (we get a full WEEK off down here!).

So what am I thankful for? Goodness, there's a lot! Let's go back to almost a month ago and bring you up to speed with what I've been doing!

I'm thankful for:

 A successful Red Ribbon Week

 Friday Night Lights

 Just because...

An AWESOME conference for science teachers in Dallas this past weekend (I took a workshop and did an experiment to make glowing bacteria!)

And a fun trip with a girlfriend to a flea market. Found some great additions for the house!

And I'm grateful for the chance to finally get to blog! :)
Happy thankful week!
