About Me

I am a high school biology teacher at Westlake Academy, an IBO World School, in Texas. I have been teaching for 5 years and have been in a 1:1 iPad learning environment for 4 years. I operate my classroom through iTunes U (Biology course here). I love that technology has given students a tool to extend their creativity beyond what they think they are capable of. My passion is to create innovative and authentic learning experiences that connect students to our world. In my class, they have the opportunity to critically and creatively think, and create content that impacts others (our first publication of a multitouch iBook for lab safety can be seen here). I was named Teacher of the Year in 2014-15 at Westlake Academy and am an Apple Distinguished Educator (Class 2015).
I graduated from The University of Illinois at Chicago with my Bachelors Degree of Biological Sciences. I am currently studying for my Masters in Education in Digital Leading and Learning through Lamar University. I have been studying how to support teachers in creating significant learning environments using 1:1 iPads.

I am enjoying life in the DFW area and have been married for 8 years to Steve, a graphic designer. In 2014 we had our first son, Simon, and are expecting our second boy May 2017!
Simon, age 2.
